Along the Midhope Burn to the south-west of Abercorn Point, a small quarry beside a footpath exposes a coarsening-up sequence of siltstones and sandstones within the Hopetoun Member of the West Lothian Oil-shale Formation (Midhope Burn 2 [NT 0784 78918] (Figure 59), (Figure 60). Further downstream, the Broxburn Shale can be seen beside the footpath about 30 m upstream from a small bridge at Midhope Burn 1 [NT 0787 7898] (Figure 61).
