WLGS 49 Longridge Moss (Proposed RIGS) [NS 958 620]
Part of the Quaternary deposits, landscapes and soils sites
Other designations: B-SSSI (Longridge Moss and Farm); WS (Longridge Moss); RBI (Longridge Moss); SWTR (Longridge Moss)
This relatively large raised bog is surrounded by many wildlife-rich habitats. It is a SWT Reserve and also home to one of the few remaining populations of Water Voles in West Lothian. The main geodiversity interest is the peat soil; there is also potential for pollen records to help elucidate the depostional and climatic history of the area after the last glaciation.
