Description: One of several disused quarries in Glen Gelder which probably were the source of stone used in constructing Balmoral Castle.

Justification: Locally significant as probable source of building stone for Balmoral Castle. The rock is representative of the Lochnagar Granite Pluton (L2 component), hence the site represents the pluton and its parent unit, the Deeside Subsuite.
