Site no.: B13

Site name: Morven'Cabrach

Grid reference: [NJ 36205 10795]; [NJ 36205 10795]

Locality: The site includes that part of the outcrop of the Morven'Cabrach Gabbroic Pluton that lies within the CNP, extending from Tom Garchory in the south to Hill of Three Stones in the north.

GCR Status: N/A

GCR No.: N/A

Type: Natural exposures

Description: The pluton is a large, probably laccolithic, intrusion of layered ultramafic and mafic rocks, which is sheared locally. Within the boundary of the CNP it crops out over approximately 130 km2. It is generally very poorly exposed, hence the entire intrusion forms the site rather than a particular exposure or area.

Justification: The intrusion is the only representative within the CNP of the large, laccolithic intrusions of mafic and ultramafic rock comprising the Northeast Grampian Basic Subsuite.
